Delivering more of everything that buyers loved in Fiat’s spunky and thrifty 500 series, the logically named Fiat 600 was introduced in 1955 and advanced Italy’s postwar automotive expansion as a stylish and versatile upscale “people’s car.” Engineered by the masterful Dante Giacosa, the 600 utilized simple, yet highly effective, mechanical components. Later tuned by Abarth, the “Seicento” was also capable of startling performance in competition against ostensibly quicker foes.
Given its long-standing relationship with Fiat, it was logical that the venerable Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Viotti would perform visual magic on the diminutive 600, exemplified by this special-series example, which is based on the Fiat 600 D Berlina. Among the upgrades by Carrozzeria Viotti are the special grille, unique body-side moldings, deluxe interior – including Red and White patterned upholstery – and, of course, a fashionable two-tone paint finish. Acquired by a prior owner from Mede, Italy, in 2004 and imported to North America, this Fiat 600 Berlina was refurbished and completed in March 2005. Powered by a 633 cc overhead valve inline four-cylinder engine, this wonderful and stylish Italian classic was formerly owned by a noted classic-car collector, and it was acquired by the current owner in 2018. Fun, festive, and economical, yet rare and sure to attract admirers wherever it is spotted, this 1959 Fiat 600 Berlina, enhanced by Viotti, is yet another example of the noted Italian coachbuilder’s versatile artistry.
