A preservation gem showing just over 9,800 miles since new, this three-owner L71 Corvette was ordered on September 4, 1966, and delivered to William Pape Chevrolet in Huntington, New York, on November 30.
The car’s original owner, James E. Selvy Jr., was a Vietnam veteran, returning from his service (1968–1969) to successfully campaign this Corvette in drag racing events at National Speedway, Islip Speedway, and Raceway Park in Englishtown, New Jersey. Class-winning decals from the period still adorn the car’s rear glass, complemented by period Nixon and Agnew bumper stickers. Selvy’s custom “Captain America” racing helmet, personalized with his Marine service dates, is included in the sale, adding a deeply personal touch to the car’s provenance. Additionally, an extra set of rear wheels with drag slicks mounted on them further connects this car to its racing past.
Finished in its original Sunfire Yellow, this Corvette boasts an impressive list of factory options, including the coveted L71 427/435 hp engine, M21 close-ratio four-speed gearbox, Posi-Traction 3.70 rear axle, power steering, vacuum power brakes, AM-FM radio, telescopic steering wheel, and headrests. Original documentation includes Selvy’s customer order form, sales invoice, NCRS shipping data, and a collection of New York inspection stickers, underscoring the car’s low mileage. Never restored, this Corvette retains a charming patina, showcasing its rich history as a well-loved example.
