Developed to homologate Ford’s Trans-Am racer, the Boss 302 arrived for 1969 with a specially developed 302 V-8 and competition-oriented suspension. Larry Shinoda styling completed the package, and with just 1,627 examples built for the first model year, it has become one of the most collectible Mustangs of its era.
Sold new through Jim Aikey Ford of Des Plaines, Illinois, on June 19, 1969, this Bright Yellow Boss 302 was a highly optioned example. Its Elite Marti Report records a close-ratio four-speed gearbox, 3.91 Traction-Lok differential, power steering, deluxe interior, Magnum 500 wheels, rear spoiler, Sport Slats, and tachometer.
According to an inspection report on file by Marcus Anghel, Shelby American Automobile Club National Head Judge for Boss Mustangs, the car underwent a detailed, photo-documented restoration, including an engine rebuild. The report notes a high-level attention to accuracy, pointing out that even the underside of the car was painted in the correct color primer for a Dearborn-produced Boss 302. Following the restoration, the Mustang earned a Gold award in the Trailered Concours Class at the Mustang Club of America national show in Tucson, Arizona.
An attractive and highly specified example, this Boss 302 represents an exceptional opportunity to own one of Ford’s seminal performance Mustangs.
