Upon its debut at the 1984 Paris Motor Show, the Testarossa became the quintessential Ferrari of the 1980s. Even today, its striking Pininfarina design is what many people think of when hearing the word “supercar.” As the Testarossa was in production from 1984 until 1996, it underwent numerous evolutionary changes, but the original versions, built between 1984 and 1986, remain the definitive example of this groundbreaking model and are highly prized. These early Testarossas are distinguished by their single, high-mounted side-view mirror on the driver’s side – known as the Monospecchio or “Flying Mirror”– and center-lock magnesium wheels designed for metric-sized Michelin TRX tires.
This US-specification 1986 Ferrari Testarossa is finished in traditional Rosso Corsa (Racing Red) over a tan leather interior and showed just 6,082 miles at the time of cataloguing. Sold new by Lake Forest Sports Cars in Illinois, this Ferrari was retained by one owner from 1991 until its sale to the consignor. In November 2024, under the current owner’s care, the Ferrari received an engine-out service that included a timing-belt replacement, as well as new gaskets, hoses, and fluids.
Included with the sale is a set of books and manuals in the original leather pouch, a tool kit, a rare original factory spare tire, and a torque wrench for the single-lug wheels. This desirable, early production Testarossa is a beautifully kept example of one of the most important cars in Ferrari’s history and is presented in spectacular, recently serviced condition.
