Ferrari introduced the 296 Speciale A in April 2025 as the open-top counterpart to the 296 Speciale. The “A” stood for Aperta, placing it in what Ferrari described as an “ultra-exclusive dynasty” of focused open models that included the Scuderia Spider 16M, 458 Speciale A, and 488 Pista Spider. Developed in parallel with the coupe, it combined the Speciale’s sharper performance brief with the added sensory appeal of open-air driving. ‌ Its retractable hardtop opened or closed in 14 seconds, while the vertical rear glass could be lowered independently to admit more air and engine sound into the cabin. Despite the packaging demands of the folding roof, Ferrari engineered the Speciale A to match the coupe’s peak aerodynamic performance. Revised bodywork and an enlarged rear diffuser helped generate 435 kg of downforce at 250 km/h, approximately 20% more than the 296 GTS. ‌ The plug-in hybrid powertrain combined a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V-6 with an electric motor for a total output of 880 PS, 50 PS more than the 296 GTS. Titanium connecting rods, reinforced pistons, revised engine-management strategies, and technology derived from the 296 Challenge underscored its competition influence. Titanium springs, new dampers, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, and revised electronic controls further sharpened its responses. ‌ Ferrari quoted 0–100 km/h in 2.8 seconds and a maximum speed exceeding 330 km/h , figures identical to the coupe despite the Aperta’s additional weight. Writing for CAR in June 2026, Curtis Moldrich offered a succinct verdict: “If you can, you should.” He went on to praise the Speciale for delivering its performance in a “raw, truly magical way,” adding that the Aperta’s lack of a roof made the experience “all the more intoxicating.” It was an apt summation of the Speciale A’s appeal: preserving the remarkable performance and precision of the coupe while adding another layer of sound, sensation, and involvement. ‌ This 296 Speciale A presents in a particularly dramatic specification. Its factory personalization plaque records Nero (Black, DS 1250) over Nero (Black, 9440) Alcantara, contrasted by extensive yellow detailing and a competition-inspired exterior treatment. The cabin continues the theme with Daytona racing seats, yellow stitching, matching Cavallino headrest stitching, and extensive Alcantara trim. ‌ Carbon fibre was specified liberally throughout, including the engine covers, rear diffuser, under-door covers, dashboard inserts and air vents, front spoiler, rear bumper, air intake, and side wings. Further equipment includes matte diamond-polished forged wheels, yellow brake calipers, front-axle lift, surround-view cameras, front radar with adaptive cruise control, adaptive headlights, premium Hi-Fi, smartphone interface, and wireless charging. ‌ Showing just 106 km at the time of cataloguing and accompanied by original delivery documentation, this Speciale A is a lightly used example remaining under factory warranty until 30 March 2029. Its dark, highly detailed specification and vivid yellow accents give it an especially purposeful appearance, while the open configuration delivers the added sensory drama that defines Ferrari’s most focused Aperta models.
