Record-Breaking Ferrari 288 GTO and FXX K Evo Surpass Expectations at Gooding Christie’s Landmark Paris Sale

The auction house staked out its territory in continental Europe with €50+ million in total sales and an exceptional 80% sell-through rate, surpassing results from other top houses that week.

Paris, France (3 February 2026) – International automotive powerhouse Gooding Christie’s concluded its inaugural European auction on the continent as the official auction house of Rétromobile, the foremost European motoring event, realizing over €50 million in total sales with a leading sell-through rate of 80%, with 66 lots sold. The top lot of the sale was the record-shattering 1984 Ferrari 288 GTO, sold for €9,117,500, nearly €2 million more than the existing world record established earlier in January. The 2018 Ferrari FXX K Evo, offered without reserve, also astounded the crowd with its record-setting final figure of €6,980,000.

Additional top sales throughout the day included the French classic 1938 Talbot-Lago T150-C-SS Teardrop Coupe, sold for €6,755,000, the Giallo Fly 1971 Lamborghini Miura P400 SV, sold for €3,380,000, and the 1938 Bugatti Type 57C Atalante, sold for €2,255,000. After a spirited bidding battle, the exceptional time-capsule Celeste 1975 Lancia Stratos HF Stradale set a new world record at auction for the model by achieving €815,000, and the 1994 Ferrari 512 TR Speciale sold for a record price of €747,500. Additionally, the ex-Le Mans 2013 Ferrari 458 GTE, one of only 52 examples built by Michelotto S.p.A. and delivered new to Team Taisan of Japan, became the first 458 GTE to sell at public auction, realizing €1,130,000.

The auction marked an important milestone for the Gooding Christie’s brand as the first major strategic venture undertaken on a global scale following acquisition by Christie’s in 2024. Notably, Gooding Christie’s first Parisian sale at the venue represented a homecoming to the global Christie’s team, as Christie’s Motor Car Department previously conducted the official auctions at Rétromobile from 2002 to 2007. Gooding Christie’s looks forward to joining the directors of Rétromobile for their inaugural North American event this November at the Javits Center in New York City. The auction house is now inviting consignments for the highly anticipated sale this autumn.

Gooding Christie’s President David Gooding said: “I am exceptionally proud of the Gooding Christie’s team for successfully conducting our first-ever auction in France at one of the premier automotive events. Not only did our seasoned specialist team consign remarkable vehicles from collectors all over the world, but we witnessed extraordinary market results in real time with record-setting sales of the 288 GTO, the FXX K Evo, and more.”

Oliver Camelin, Gooding Christie’s Managing Director, EMEA, said: “Europe has long been central to the global collector car market, and the strength, diversity, and international participation we saw in Paris reaffirm our conviction that Gooding Christie’s belongs here for the long term. This auction represents the foundation of a broader European strategy, with further activity and growth already underway across the region.”

Bonnie Brennan, Christie’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “What a night for all of us who were able to be here in person for this, our first Gooding Christie's auction in Europe. David Gooding and I are grateful to Rétromobile for choosing Gooding Christie's as its official partner and I look forward to welcoming Rétromobile to New York for its very first American edition this November.”
