Ferrari’s Most Powerful Series-Production Spider at Launch

Unveiled at Pebble Beach in 2018, the Ferrari 488 Pista Spider brought the Pista’s race-derived engineering to an open-top format. It was Ferrari’s 50th convertible model and, at its introduction, the most powerful series-production convertible the company had built. Its retractable hardtop gave the driver a choice between the security of an enclosed cabin and a more direct experience of the V-8’s sound and the surrounding road.

The Pista Spider was developed from the 488 Spider, with changes informed by Ferrari’s 488 Challenge and 488 GTE racing cars. Its 3.9-litre twin-turbocharged V-8 produced 720 PS, while revised internal components, improved cooling, and lighter hardware helped sharpen response. Moving the engine intakes from the body sides to the rear spoiler area also improved airflow and allowed larger intercoolers. ‌ Aerodynamics were equally important. An F1-inspired S-Duct generated front downforce, while a revised rear spoiler, active diffuser, and redesigned underbody improved aerodynamic efficiency by 20% over the 488 Spider. ‌ Ferrari quoted 0–100 km/h in 2.85 seconds, while Top Gear recorded that the car could reach 200 km/h in 8.0 seconds and exceed 320 km/h. More important than the numbers, however, was how little the open car surrendered dynamically. In March 2019, Top Gear magazine concluded that the Pista Spider “loses very little dynamically when compared to the Pista Coupe,” while gaining “quite a lot in terms of immersion in the wider experience.” Its verdict was even more succinct: “A blast in a Pista Spider on a sunny day on a good road will remind you what’s good about life.” ‌ This 2019 Ferrari 488 Pista Spider was first registered for road use in August 2019 and has remained with its original owner from new. Its factory personalization plaque documents an “Extra Campionario” specification centered around striking Giallo Triplo Strato (Tri-Coat Yellow) paint, complemented by a Nero (Black) racing stripe and matching tri-coat yellow lower surrounds. Yellow brake calipers and 20" forged wheels with dark-painted rims complete the exterior treatment. ‌ Inside, Daytona racing seats feature yellow leather detailing, complemented by a yellow rev counter and Giallo stitching for the Cavallino emblems on the headrests. Matte carbon fibre appears throughout the cabin, including the instrument cover, center console, inner sill trim, and luggage-compartment areas. ‌ Carbon fibre was also specified extensively outside, including the front flaps, side air splitters, engine covers, rear diffuser, front air vents, under-door covers, rear molding, and B-post trim. Further equipment includes a front-axle lift, front and rear parking cameras, adaptive headlights, Apple CarPlay, high-power Hi-Fi, Scuderia Ferrari shields, black tailpipes, electrochromic mirrors, and a personalized silver dedication plaque. ‌ Showing just 1,891 km at the time of cataloguing and remaining under factory warranty until 30 July 2027, this single-owner Pista Spider combines exceptionally limited use with a vivid and carefully coordinated specification. Its Giallo Triplo Strato finish, contrasting racing stripe, extensive carbon fibre trim, and open-air configuration give it a dramatic presence befitting one of Ferrari’s most focused modern V-8 Spiders.
